Il Marroneto | Montalcino
A benchmark of traditional Brunello, Il Marroneto captures Montalcino at its most pure and enduring.
The Estate
Founded in the 1970s by Giuseppe Mori, Il Marroneto has become one of Montalcino’s most respected traditional producers. Today led by Alessandro Mori, the estate remains firmly committed to a classical vision of Brunello, favouring transparency, restraint, and longevity over modern influence.
The Vineyards
The vineyards sit on the northern side of Montalcino, where cooler conditions allow for slower ripening and greater aromatic precision. Soils are predominantly galestro and clay, contributing to structure and freshness, while the estate’s elevated position plays a key role in maintaining balance in warmer vintages.
The Wines
Il Marroneto’s wines are defined by purity, fine structure, and an ability to age gracefully over decades. They are distinctly traditional in style, built more on finesse and detail than weight or extraction.
Key wines include:
Brunello di Montalcino
Brunello di Montalcino “Madonna delle Grazie”
Notable Details
The estate takes its name from a chestnut drying house on the property
Alessandro Mori is known for a hands-off, intuitive approach in both vineyard and cellar
Fermentations are long and traditional, with extended ageing in large Slavonian oak
Madonna delle Grazie is produced only in the best vintages and in very small quantities
Northern Montalcino positioning gives the wines notable freshness compared to warmer southern sites
In Allocation
With a strong global following and relatively small production, Il Marroneto’s wines are tightly allocated each year. Their consistency and ageing potential mean they are rarely available beyond release, making allocation the most reliable way to secure them.
