DOMAINE AURÈLIEN VERDET

About Aurélien Verdet:
Aurélien Verdet embodies this new generation of talented winemakers who chooses to fly under the radar. We suspect that his wines won’t remain hidden gems for long.

Still flying under the radar, Aurélien Verdet’s Burgundies not to be missed. The purity and personality of the Pinot Noir demonstrates just how well he adapts to every vintage, reflecting the style of the season. His cellars are tucked away in the quiet village of Arcenant in the Hautes-Côtes de Nuits and keeps a fairly low profile; he prefers to spend his time in his organically farmed vineyards. Father, Alain, planted the vineyards in 1971 and farmed them organically from the start, making them possibly the oldest organic vineyards in Burgundy. He has a range of excellent premiers crus, including contracts with vineyards across the Côte de Nuits. Aurélien’s wines offer  refreshingly good value.

The 2023 Vintage

2023 Bourgogne En Lutenière Rouge [Qty: 120]  Indent Price: $57.00

90 Points, Bruce Sanders, Wine Spectator
Expressive and succulent, this red delivers cherry, raspberry, earth and stony mineral aromas and flavors. Vigorous and harmonious, firming up slightly on the finish. Drink now through 2029.

Lay and Wheeler Overview
This comes from just one parcel in Vosne-Romanée, planted in 1955, and for the past few years has sported the vineyard’s name, Les Lutenières, on its label. The wines are yielding such low volumes that the domaine is in the process of replanting, uprooting one quarter of the parcel at a time. The wine has a sweet density and deep, structured fruit, with profound persistence for a Bourgogne. It will easily age for a decade, which is not something you can say of every Bourgogne.

2023 Bourgogne Hautes Cotes de Nuits Prieuré [Qty: 120] Indent Price: $63.00

Lay & Wheeler Producer Overview:
Aurélien Verdet still flies under the radar, but his are Burgundies not to be missed. They have the purity and personality of the best Pinot Noir and he adapts every vintage beautifully to the style of the season. His cellars are tucked away in the quiet village of Arcenant in the Hautes-Côtes de Nuits and he keeps a fairly low profile, preferring to spend his time in his organically farmed vineyards.

Vins Divins Tasting Notes:
The Prieure red is reminiscent of a Nuits-Saint-Georges with an intensely aromatic, ripe raspberry bouquet and concentrated palate. The Prieure has a crystalline nose of lime zest and mineral stoniness with a full body and mouth watering acidity.

2023 Fixin [Qty: 30] Indent Price: $85.00

90 Points, Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy
Purchased fruit from Les Herbues, which they harvest themselves. Very lively purple, lots of deliciously juicy dark fruit, clearly whole bunch style with the white pepper notes and fresh feel, adds length too. Spicy notes with the dark fruit, ripe but dynamic.

Tasting Notes - Wines Direct
Aurélien Verdet Fixin is a product of meticulous French wine crafting. This red wine is a splendid mixture of spice, fruit, and earth aromas that originate from its birthplace in Burgundy. With every sip, there's a rich blend of cherry and blackcurrant flavours, layered with undertones of black pepper. The palate is stellar with refined tannins, alongside a lengthy, dry finish. Aged in oak, this Fixin has a sumptuous complexity that pairs beautifully with hearty meats and roast dinners. Aurélien Verdet Fixin is indeed an expression of elegance, offering a robust and sophisticated experience for wine lovers.
