The Vineyards
A Mediterranean climate with warm summer days and cool nights, combined with gravelly loam soils, has created a distinctive terroir for the 3drops vineyards. In 1999 eight hectares of vines were planted at Wragg Road, Mount Barker, including Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Shiraz.
In 2002, to balance out the predominantly red vineyard, a further 6.5 hectares were planted, including Riesling, Chardonnay, Semillon, and Nebbiolo.
In May 2006 the purchase of the nearby 6 hectare Patterson’s vineyard gave a 50 per cent increase in the size of 3drops viticultural holdings. The first plantings at Patterson’s were in 1982, which now provide grapes from valuable aged vines. They include Chardonnay, Shiraz and Pinot Noir.
The 3drops vineyards are managed by viticulturist, Ray Williams, with all wines being crafted by winemaker, Rob Diletti.

First Bracket
2024 3drops 'Wragg Road' Vineyard Riesling
93 Points - Ray Jordan, rayjordanwines.com.au
Another first-rate riesling from this small Mount Barker producer. From the start, riesling has been a consistent standout, and even in this very season, the quality is excellent. It is one of the best rieslings I have tasted from this vintage. Fine and linear with a lively energised aroma and palate. Lemon zest and spicy bath salts with a crisp tense palate extending to a long finish.

2023 3drops 'Patterson Vineyard' Chardonnay
3drops Chardonnay presents an approachable yet complex bouquet, with ripe nectarine and peach aromas, complemented by subtle pink grapefruit notes. These are balanced by delicate mealy characters and hints of French oak. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, offering richness and depth while retaining a fresh and vibrant character. The flavour profile strikes a lovely balance between the stone fruit elements, bright acidity, and softly integrated oak.

2025 3drops 'Wragg Road Vineyard' Nebbiolo Rose (New Release)
3drops Cabernet Franc Rosé reveals flavours of wild strawberries and raspberries. This is followed by a savoury and intricate mid-palate that showcases both texture and substance. The refreshing acidity from the Cabernet Franc lends a crisp and vibrant finish to the wine.

2024 3drops 'Patterson Vineyard' Pinot Noir (New Release)
Fragrant, spicy and pretty. This Pinot smells of pressed rose petals and raspberry liquorice. I like its audacity to be itself. Cranberry juice and just a touch of mushrooms. Bright and bouncy. Like a fresh blow-out. The tannins are chewy, and there’s a vein of red brick dust, or, rusty nail; something savoury, and moreish. It brings it all back to centre. Drink in summer with 20 minutes in the fridge before serving, or, during hedging seasons. Drink with your friends that can romanticise sadness and have good conversation. Drink with goat’s cheese and liver parfait. Just drink it.

Fourth Bracket
2023 3drops 'Wragg Road Vineyard' Merlot (New Release)
3drops Merlot 2023 offers layered flavours of plum and dark berries. Accents of mulberry, dark chocolate, and spice unfold on the palate, seamlessly integrated with fine-grained oak tannins. The result is a wine with balanced acidity and a refined, lingering finish. While already approachable, it will reward careful cellaring for the next 7 to 8 years.

2021 3drops 'Wragg Road Vineyard' Nebbiolo
This wine is classic Nebbiolo, with concentrated sour cherry and raspberry fruit characters. These fruit characters are balanced by tight, but lingering acidity, earthiness and typical Nebbiolo tannin structure.

Fifth Bracket
2022 3drops 'Wragg Road Vineyard' Cabernet Franc
Bold, bright delicious red fruit flavours of red cherry and cranberry. These translate to a medium-bodied, intense, beautifully balanced, and framed palate. Soft tannins from the French oak provide structure and texture. A medium bodied, delicious red wine with length, savouriness, and complexity.

2021 3drops 'Wragg Road Vineyard' Cabernets
The entry into the palate is rich and generous with berry characters. These are framed by tobacco leaf characters and cedary French oak. The tannins are mid weighted and well-integrated, giving balance and savoriness. The finish is rounded and long. A good example of a cool climate cabernet blend from what was a consistent vintage in Western Australia.

2020 3 Drops 'Patterson Vineyard' Shiraz
Rich and full-flavored wine which shows cool climate spice and pepper character yet is characterized by intensity and power. Dark plum fruit fills the front palate and is backed the wonderful cool climate notes of violets and black pepper. The richness carries through the palate and is enhanced by balanced tannins, fine acidity and hints of high-quality French oak. The finish is rich long and powerful.
